What is a winch strap?

A flat polyester webbing strap with a hook or chain anchor end, threaded through a sliding winch assembly on a flatbed trailer rail. The winch drum tensions the strap over the load — unlike ratchet straps, which have a built-in mechanism.

How to use winch straps?

Thread the strap through the winch slot, lay it over the load, connect the hook to the anchor point, then use a winch bar to tighten until the load doesn't shift. Verify tension meets DOT requirements before moving.

How strong are winch tie down straps?

Rated to 5,400 lbs WLL with a breaking strength of approximately 16,200 lbs — a standard 3:1 safety ratio.

How to loosen winch straps?

Rotate the winch bar in reverse, engage the release pawl to free the drum, then unhook the strap and pull it back through the slot.
